The Charlie Jackson Unity Park is grassy lawn in a nook abutting a strip of historic retail buildings in the heart of historic downtown Montezuma. The Park includes two arbors and stage.
The park property formerly housed buildings lost in a devastating downtown fire. The park’s centerpiece phoenix fountain represents rebuilding from fire and flood. The rear facade of a remaining building faces the park and features a “Wall of Fame” with memorial plaques dedicated to community leaders.
The park is home of the famous Beaver Creek Festival, which was first celebrated when the waters of the 1994 flood receded. The festival celebrates the spirit of revival required to dry out and restore the historic buildings in the heart of the picturesque downtown area. Each year about 4,000 patrons gather in downtown Montezuma tocommemorate the heritage of courage that has revived downtown from flooding disasters dating back to the 1920s.
